Elderly Challenge Part 1

)Explain in your own words, the FOUR key recommendations of the report.
The four key recommendation are mainly:
-Housing for the elderly
-Accessibility for the elderly
-Caring for the elderly
-Opportunities for the elderly
For the first point, the housing for the elderly. It is too allow the elderly to feel comfortable with the environment where they live at. Having supermarkets and clinics near the elderly housing estate so if they are sick, it will be just a stone throws away. Making appointment will also be easy.
For the Second point, The accessibility for the elderly. It means to have convenient transport for the elderly. Moreover, the price must be affordable so that they will socialise with people instead of always staying at home.
For the Third point, the Caring for the elderly. Health care is a important thing for the elderly as they immune system is weaker. In singapore, the cost of medical expenses are cheaper for the elderly so they are able to afford it as some are not working anymore hence is surviving on their savings.
For the fourth point, the Opportunities for the elderly. Even if they are not working anymore because of their weak bodies, they can be involved in community activities. Making friends and having a deeper bond with their grandchildren and their own children.
2)State ONE way that the CAI report is recommending to make our public housing more elderly-friendly
They recommend to have various housing sizes and types so the elderly will have more choices.
3)State TWO ways on how we can ensure that the quality of elderly care here in Singapore is affordable
We can top up medisave accounts so their medical expenses can depend on medisave. We can also promote family physicians to provide first line medical care for the elderly in need.
4)After reading the CAI report, what do you are the THREE things that you can do, as an SST student, to help overcome these elderly challenges
I think as a SST student, I can recommend ideas to improve the environment to be more elderly-friendly. I can encourage my grandparents to stay active by socializing. I can also volunteer to be a host or helper for a community activity.
